Upheaval in the Middle East: "First panic in Assad regime: High Syrian officials evacuate families"

Damascus was alive with rumors Thursday, April 14 that President Bashar Assad and his family were preparing to flee to Saudi Arabia. They were, sparked by the discovery that several high-ranking Syrian officials and army officers were evacuating their families from the capital to Persian Gulf emirates.

US intelligence officials also disclosed that Iran was secretly helping Assad crack down on his own people, providing gear to suppress crowds and assistance in blocking and monitoring protesters' Internet and cell phones.

Israel's plan for next year's school curriculum: Reinforcing Jewish and Zionist values

The Education Ministry's plan for the coming school year does not include civics, democratic values or Jewish-Arab coexistence, according to copies circulated among principals.
It states schools' two main objectives are to reinforce Jewish and Zionist values, and to improve scholastic achievements, and instructs principals how to fulfill these goals.

One World Economy: "NYSE rejects Nasdaq-and-partner bid to buy it"

NEW YORK — The parent company of the New York Stock Exchange said Sunday that it rejected an $11.3-billion bid from Nasdaq and IntercontinentalExchange to buy the company.

NYSE Euronext said that its board decided to turn down the offer, which was submitted earlier this month, because it was "highly conditional" and would have caused unnecessary risk for shareholders.

The company said it is sticking with its plan to combine with German exchange operator Deutsche Boerse AG. NYSE agreed to that $10 billion deal in February.

The rejection of the Nasdaq/ICE bid was expected. Analysts have said that a deal between the companies would have led to more job losses. They also worried that a combination would raise antitrust concerns in Washington if Nasdaq and NYSE created one big U.S. stock market exchange.

NYSE said the Deutsche Boerse deal creates more value for investors and is "significantly more likely to close."

The consolidation of the world's most important stock exchanges could accelerate after the merger of Germany's Deutsche Börse and the New-York based NYSE Euronext, according to the head of Deutsche Börse.

Chief executive Reto Francioni told Swiss newspaper NZZ am Sonntag the planned acquisition of NYSE Euronext could eventually include other players. He said: "The main point of the targeted fusion with NYSE Euronext is that each spot market remains independent. One could also include Spain or Switzerland."

Deutsche Börse and NYSE Euronext agreed plans to create the world's largest bourse in February, a deal through which the German operator owns 60% of the group.

The merger is part of a wave of tie-ups in the increasingly competitive and global exchange world. It will create a group that dominates exchange-based European derivatives trading, spanning the US, Germany, France, Britain, the Netherlands, Portugal and Belgium.

Texas Legislature considers banning courts from recognizing foreign religious, cultural laws | ...

AUSTIN -- Texas lawmakers are considering whether to ban state courts from considering foreign religious or cultural laws, such as the Islamic law of Shariah.

The goal "is to require a Texas court to uphold and apply only the laws ordained by the constitutions of [Texas and the United States], prohibiting any other interpretation," said Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler, a former Arlington mayor pro tem. "This is now happening all over Europe ... and in Dearborn, Mich. ... and it could spread throughout the United States.

"We all know what Shariah law does to women -- women must wear burqas, women are subject to humiliation and into controlled marriages under Shariah law," he said. "We want to prevent it from ever happening in Texas."

I have received many, many inquiries into who I am supporting for President in 2012. As I told this gentleman last summer, divine providence is calling him. He CAN NOT WAIT. His time is NOW, because we don't have any more time, as a nation and as a civilization. The next elected President of the United States MUST be LTC Rep. Allen Bernard West, and his running mate must be Mr. Herman Cain. LTC Rep. West has the combat military experience to lead us as Commander in Chief in war, and Mr. Cain has the real-life business experience and economic prowess to work domestically to undo the massive damage that has been done to our economy over the last five years.

And both men are oozing class, character, and everything good and exceptional about America. These men are, and are called to be, STATESMEN. They are not imbecilic whores like almost everyone else in our government today.

LTC Rep. West, duty calls, Sir. Consider yourself conscripted.
