Islamic Awareness Week 2011 to begin next Sunday

Sunday September 11 will mark the beginning of Islamic Awareness Week, in which we encourage readers to cite the contributions that Islam as practiced on September 11 2001 has made to the world’s history.

Islamic Awareness Week 2011 should then continue with militant Islam’s previous contributions to history including invasions of other people’s countries that were either stopped at places like Tours, Lepanto, and Vienna or succeeded at Constantinople (1453). We can go on from there with many examples of depraved sadistic torture and mindless violence, all under color of Islam and obedience to Allah.

The Perils of Global Intolerance: Durban III

What happens when a group of states collude to corrupt the meaning of human rights?

A Racist "Anti-Racism" Conference

The United Nations Charter promises that the organization's central principle is the equality of all men and women and of all nations large and small. The United Nations Durban Declaration and Durban conferences treat Israel differently than all other nations. The United Nations has violated that trust.

Powerful magnets hamper our ability to lie

YOU will tell the truth. Applying a magnetic field to the brain seems to hamper our ability to tell lies.
Lying is thought to involve inhibiting our normal propensity to truth-telling, so Talis Bachmann's team at the University of Tartu in Estonia reasoned that dampening brain activity in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) - which is involved in cognitive control - might alter the likelihood of lying.

Scientists find they can control how people react to group pressure

The researchers found they were able to control whether volunteers conformed to social pressure by using powerful electromagnetic pulses that changed the activity of a small part of the brain.

Volunteers whose posterior medial frontal cortex, an area in the middle of the brain that is associated with reward processing, were exposed to the magnetic pulses suffered reduced levels of conformity.

More than 1K homes now destroyed in Texas fires

BASTROP, Texas - One of the most devastating wildfire outbreaks in Texas history left more than 1,000 homes in ruins Tuesday and stretched the state's firefighting ranks to the limit, confronting Gov. Rick Perry with a major disaster at home just as the GOP presidential contest heats up.

More than 180 fires have erupted in the past week across the rain-starved Lone Star State, and nearly 600 of the homes destroyed since then were lost in one catastrophic blaze in and around Bastrop, near Austin, that raged out of control Tuesday for a third day.

Whipped into an inferno by Tropical Storm Lee's winds over the weekend, the blaze burned more than 45 square miles, forced the evacuation of thousands and killed at least two people, bringing the overall death toll from the outbreak to at least four.

Italy grinds to a halt as THREE million strike over €45bn (£39.5bn) austerity package

Italy ground to a halt today as a general strike brought thousands - if not millions - on to the street in protest at a belt-tightening €45billion (£39.5bn) austerity package.
The strike was organised by the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), the country's biggest trade union, and saw disruption to flights, buses, trains as well as hospitals, schools, post offices and other government services.

Demonstrations were held in several cities across the country with extra police being drafted in to stop any potential disorder but there were still sporadic outbursts with eight officers hurt by fireworks.

Evangelicals Left Off National Cathedral 9/11 Program

A weekend of religious-themed observances at Washington National Cathedral marking the tenth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks will include a Buddhist nun and an Imam, but not an evangelical Christian, leading the head of the Southern Baptist Convention to ask President Obama to reconsider attending the event.

Harper says 'Islamicism' biggest threat to Canada

In an exclusive interview with CBC News, Prime Minister Stephen Harper says the biggest security threat to Canada a decade after 9/11 is Islamic terrorism.

In a wide-ranging interview with CBC chief correspondent Peter Mansbridge that will air in its entirety on The National Thursday night, Harper says Canada is safer than it was on Sept. 11, 2001, when al-Qaeda attacked the U.S., but that "the major threat is still Islamicism."

Americans split on whether civil liberties should be sacrificed in name of fighting terrorism: poll

Analysis: NATO membership a restraint for Turkey

NATO was the magic word in Israel on Tuesday.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is ultimately believed to be the main obstacle that will prevent Turkey from actually following through with its threat and dispatching naval vessels to the eastern Mediterranean to confront the Israel Navy.

Turkey set to sign military pact with Egypt after cutting trade ties with Israel

A military and economic alliance with Egypt is set to be signed by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The deal should be clinched when Erdogan visits Cairo next Monday - the first such visit paid by a Turkish prime minister in 15 years.
The alliance is not intended as "revenge" against Israel; Erdogan's intention is to extend Turkey's influence to areas it has not reached in past decades.
