Britain: "Christians are more militant than Muslims, says Government's equalities boss "

Muslims are integrating into British society better than many Christians, according to the head of the Government's equality watchdog

Trevor Phillips warned that "an old time religion incompatible with modern society" is driving the revival in the Anglican and Catholic Churches and clashing with mainstream views, especially on homosexuality.
He accused Christians, particularly evangelicals, of being more militant than Muslims in complaining about discrimination, arguing that many of the claims are motivated by a desire for greater political influence.

Allen West, some Republicans rethink military's role, sparking GOP debate

— U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation, is about as hawkish as they come on Afghanistan, but he sounded war-weary at a recent town hall meeting.

"It has been very frustrating for me to sit back and look at us be involved in the nation-building, occupation-style warfare. It drains your economic resources. Ten years, 11 years is too long for us to be mired down in a place like Iraq or Afghanistan," West said at Lynn University.

West, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who will visit Afghanistan this week, remains supportive of the U.S. presence there and recently voted against a Democratic proposal to speed troop withdrawals.

But his comments at the town hall and desire to eventually move to a more mobile, strike-oriented presence in Afghanistan are part of a growing debate within the GOP over military involvements in Afghanistan and Libya.

Apple turns "Big Brother"

Last week, the tech world was rocked by reports that Apple was patenting technology that would allow outsiders to remotely shut off the camera in an iPhone. The scenario involved people attending concerts and recording video to share with their friends, something that big record companies frown on. Under the patent, a remote signal from a transmitter in the concert hall would tell your iPhone camera to shut down until the concert was over.

We've got you under your skin: Battery-free surveillance device that can be implanted under the flesh....

A new generation of battery-free surveillance devices which can be implanted under the skin and transmit over huge distances via wireless have been developed by scientists.
Researchers are working on nano machines that could be injected into the arms of patients and then report back to doctors who are monitoring them from miles away.
They would be powered by the motion of a person walking, or even the pulse of a blood vessel, so would never stop working until the person died.

Science: "Now you could get X-Men super powers after scientists develop world's first 'living laser' beam"

Comic book fans have long dreamed of emitting a powerful beam from their eyes like superhero Cyclops of the X-Men.
Now that dream could one day become a reality after scientists this week announced they have created the world’s first ‘living laser’, a biological cell which is engineered to produce a laser beam.
A pioneering team used a cell from a human kidney which had been genetically engineered to produce light in the same way as a jellyfish and flooded it with blue light.
