Postmen 'spy' for address database

Spies: Postmen will soon begin recording the position of every home address in the UK

Postmen are being turned into hi-tech spies by the Royal Mail under a scheme that will see them record the position of every address in the country.
They will patrol streets using a satellite location device to capture the precise longitude, latitude and altitude of each home and business.
In future, the Royal Mail could sell the information to firms such as Google to improve mapping services.

Mahdi, the Messiah, Found Infecting Systems in Iran, Israel | Threat Level | Wired.com

Who knew that when the Messiah arrived to herald the Day of Judgment he’d first root through computers to steal documents and record conversations?
That’s what Mahdi, a new piece of spyware found targeting more than 800 victims in Iran and elsewhere in the Middle East, has been doing since last December, according to Russia-based Kaspersky Lab and Seculert, an Israeli security firm that discovered the malware.

Mahdi, which is named after files used in the malware, refers to the Muslim messiah who, it’s prophesied, will arrive before the end of time to cleanse the world of wrongdoing and bestow peace and justice before Judgment Day. But this recently discovered Mahdi is only interested in one kind of cleansing – vaccuuming up PDFs, Excel files and Word documents from victim machines.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology proposes options for using iris recognition as alternative to fingerprints for federal Personal Identity Verification. -- Government Computer News

“The addition of iris and face specifications . . . adds an alternative modality for biometric authentication and extends coverage to persons for whom fingerprinting is problematic,” the draft says. FIPS 201 allows the use of iris recognition although it is not required, and technical specification had not before been developed. “The recommendation to agencies to install and operate iris equipment in its PIV issuance processes allows agencies to additionally populate PIV cards with iris as an alternative authentication factor."

Hungary arrests the 'most wanted' Nazi in the world......

 Auschwitz

Police in Hungary on Tuesday arrested Laszlo Csatary, said to be the world's most wanted living Nazi, and charged him with war crimes related to the deportation of thousands of Jews to Auschwitz during World War II.

Hungarian prosecution said it indicted the 95-year-old for the part he played in sending 15,700 Jews to Nazi death camps when he was the police chief of Kosice.

Nazi hunter Efraim Zuroff of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, who tracked down Csatary to a suburb of Budapest late last year, told The Jerusalem Post shortly after the arrest took place he was overjoyed by the news.

"Hallelujah," he said. "You can't understand what this means to me. It's a great victory and a very important one."

Egypt is gripped by political uncertainty as two major forces, the military and the Muslim Brotherhood, engage in a power struggle over the future of a country that remains without a permanent constitution, parliament or government.
On Saturday night, protesters outside Clinton's luxury hotel in Cairo chanted anti-Islamist slogans, accusing the United States of backing the Muslim Brotherhood's rise to power.
In her speech at the newly re-opened U.S. consulate in Alexandria, Clinton rejected suggestions that the United States, which had long supported former Mubarak, was backing one faction or another in Egypt following his ouster last year.
"I want to be clear that the United States is not in the business, in Egypt, of choosing winners and losers, even if we could, which of course we cannot," Clinton said.
"We are prepared to work with you as you chart your course, as you establish your democracy," she added. "We want to stand for principles, for values, not for people or for parties."
