This timeline for Nazi Germany covers the major domestic events between 1933 when Hitler was appointed Chancellor to the year World War Two broke out – 1939. From 1933 to 1934 Hitler consolidated his power so that by the end of 1934 he held supreme power throughout Nazi Germany.

1933

January 4^th: Papen met Hitler at the home of German banker Kurt von Schroeder.

January 15^th: An election in the state of Lippe saw the Nazi Party win 38,000 votes out of a possible 90,000 – 39.6%.

January 22^nd: Oskar Hindenburg, son of the President, and Otto Meissner, Chief of the Presidential Office, met Hitler.

January 28^th: Schleicher resigned as Chancellor when Hindenburg refused to grant him another dissolution of the Reichstag.

January 30^th: Hitler appointed Chancellor of Germany

February 1^st: Hitler announced his ‘Proclamation to the German People’ and promised new elections for March 5^th. Hindenburg dissolved the Reichstag.

February 4^th: A decree ‘For the Protection of the German People’ gave Hitler the power to ban political meetings and the newspapers of his political rivals.

February 17^th: Goering issued a decree that ordered the police to make “good relations” with nationalists associations (SA + SS) but to make free use of their weapons against the Left.

February 22^nd: Goering united the SA, SS and Stahlhelm into one single police force.

February 23^rd: The first restrictions on homosexual rights groups were introduced.

February 27^th: The Reichstag building was burned down.

February 28^th: ‘The Emergency Decree for the Protection of People and State’ was passed, which led to the suspension of civil rights, a ban on the left wing press and the rounding up and arrest of communist and socialist leaders.

March 5^th: Elections to the Reichstag were held. The Nazis gained 288 seats (43.9% of the votes). The German National Party gained 52 seats (8% of the votes). Combined, this gave the Nazis a majority of support in the Reichstag.

March 6^th: Communist and Socialist Party headquarters were occupied by the state police as were trade union headquarters. Buildings housing publishing companies associated with the left wing were also occupied.

March 9^th: All states that were previously not loyal to the Nazis now had Nazi-loyal state administrations.

March 13^th: Joseph Goebbels set up the Reich Propaganda Ministry.

March 15^th: The German press received its first directive from Goebbels.

March 20^th: Himmler announced the establishment of a concentration camp at Dachau.

March 21^st: The newly elected Reichstag sat for the first time.

March 22^nd: The Interior Ministry set up a racial hygiene department.

March 23^rd: The Enabling Act was passed by the Reichstag that gave Hitler huge personal power.

March 28^th: The first open attacks by the SA against Jewish businesses occurred. Gleichschaltung was introduced – the forcible removal of all known opponent to the Nazis.

April 1^st: An official one-day boycott of Jewish shops took place. Literature produced by the Jehovah’s Witnesses was banned.

April 7^th: A law for the ‘Restoration of the Professional Civil Service’ was introduced that banned all Jews and non-Germans from public service.

April 26^th: The Gestapo (Secret Police) was established by Goering.

May 1^st: Hitler gave his ‘Day of German Labour’ speech.

May 2^nd: Trade unions were banned

May 6^th: The Deutsche Arbeitsfront (German Workers’ Front) was introduced to replace trade unions.

May 10^th: ‘Un-German’ books were publicly burned.   

May 19^th: The Reich government took on the task of regulating workers contracts.

June 22^nd: The Social Democrat Party was officially banned.

July 5^th: All political parties other than the Nazi Party were banned.

July 14^th: A ‘Sterilisation Law for the Prevention of Hereditary Diseases’ was passed.

July 20^th: Hitler agreed a Concordat with the Papacy.

September 23^rd: Work on the first autobahns was started.

October 14^th: Hitler pulled Nazi Germany out of the League of Nations and the Disarmament Conference.

November 17^th: The Nazi Party won 92% of the votes cast in an election.

November 27^th: Strength Through Joy (Kraft durch Freude) and the Beauty of Labour organisations were introduced.

December 1^st: A law was passed that safeguarded the unity of the party and the state.

1934

January 20^th: A law was introduced ‘for the ordering of national labour’. Decisions made in the workplace were weighted in favour of the management and against the workers.

January 24^th: Alfred Rosenberg was appointed ideological supervisor of the Nazi Party.

January 26^th: A German-Polish non-aggression pact was signed.

January 30^th: the independence of the state governments was abolished. The ‘Law for the Reconstruction of the Reich’ was passed.

March 21^st: ‘The Battle for Work’ started.

April 20^th: Himmler was made Acting Chief of the Prussian Gestapo.

April 24^th: A People’s Court was established to deal with treasonable offences.

June 17^th: Von Papen, Vice-Chancellor, denounced what the Nazi Party had introduced into Germany.

June 20^th: The SS is made independent from the SA and put in the hands of Himmler who is appointed Reichsfűhrer of the SS.

June 25^th: Austrian Nazis murdered Austrian President Engelbert Dollfuss in the hope that the Austrian Nazi Party can take control of the country.

June 26^th: Von Papen was appointed German envoy to Austria.

June 30^th: Night of the Long Knives occurred when the leadership of the SA was wiped out along with some of Hitler’s political enemies. 

August 2^nd: President Hindenburg died. Hitler declared himself both Chancellor and President. The armed forces in response to the Night of the Long Knives swore an oath of loyalty to Hitler. Hjalmar Schacht was appointed Minister of Economics.

August 19^th: A plebiscite was held in Nazi Germany asking the public if they approved of Hitler’s powers. 90% said ‘yes’.

October 8^th: A Winter Relief scheme was established.

October 26^th: A special party/government department was set up to deal with abortions and homosexuality. Homosexuals were arrested across Nazi Germany.

1935

March 17^th: Compulsory military service was introduced.

June 26^th: A law introducing compulsory labour service was introduced. 

September 15^th: The Reich Citizenship Act (the Nuremberg Laws) forbade Jews to marry German nationals.

1936

April 4^th: Goering was appointed Commissioner of Raw Materials.

August 1^st: Start of the Berlin Olympic Games.

August 16^th: End of the Berlin Olympics.

August 28^th: The mass arrest of Jehovah Witnesses began.

September 9^th: A second Four Year Plan was introduced to make Germany self-sufficient.

October 19^th: Goering was put in charge of the Four Year Plan.

December 1^st: The Hitler Youth movement became a state organisation. All non-Nazi youth movements were banned.

December 13^th: ‘Spring of Life’ (Lebensborn) was set up.

1937

February 10^th: The national bank and the railway system were both put under the control of the state.

March 9^th: The mass arrest of “habitual criminals” started.

1938

January 19^th: The ‘Faith and Beauty’ organisation was set up for women aged between 17 and 21. 

April 22^nd: The employment of Jews in businesses was banned.

November 9^th: Kristallnacht – Night of the Broken Glass.

December 3^rd: The start of the closure of all Jewish businesses occurred along with their compulsory sale to ‘Aryans’.

1939:

January 21^st: Schacht was dismissed as President of the Reichsbank.

August 27^th: Food rationing was introduced.

September 4^th: War Decrees were introduced.

October 14^th: Clothing coupons were introduced.

Bull’s-eye on Bachmann over Islamist threat

 Jamie Glazov, editor of Frontpage Magazine and author of the WND Books hit “United in Hate,” contends Bachmann should be made the committee’s chairman.

“We see a hero! Michele Bachmann. She’s a hero. She should be chairing that committee,” said Glazov, who holds a Ph.D. in history with a specialty in Russian, U.S., and Canadian foreign policy.

His comments came as he was interviewed by Robert Spencer, founder of JihadWatch.org, who has written a dozen books, including several New York Times bests-sellers. Spencer repeatedly has expressed alarm over the growing influence of Muslim Brotherhood-related figures in the Obama administration.
Among his books is “Stealth Jihad: How Radical Islam is Subverting America without Guns or Bombs.” In it, Spencer describes how Americans “unwittingly” advance the jihadist agenda “through endeavors designed to acclimate and subject us to Islamic law – just the way Osama bin Laden wanted it.”

He said the strategy Bachmann has spotlighted is to “subvert the country from within – by gradually Islamizing America” with the “ultimate goal” of “nothing less than the adoption of Islamic law in the United States.”

The infiltration already has been documented.

Earlier this month in a move that affirmed the concerns of five much-maligned GOP members of the House, including Bachmann, and the evidence presented in an investigative book, an Egyptian magazine said six American Muslim leaders who work with the Obama administration are Muslim Brotherhood operatives who have significant influence on U.S. policy.

The report is from Egypt’s Rose El-Youssef magazine, which on Dec. 22 said the six men turned the White House “from a position hostile to Islamic groups and organizations in the world to the largest and most important supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood.”

About 340,000 people joined today’s marches, according to police estimates, while organizers indicated a turnout of more than 800,000. Protesters dancing to hip-hop music carried pink flags with white images of the traditional family: man, woman and two children.

The national census for England and Wales has come out, and, as usual, this once-a-decade event has had all of its most significant points overlooked.
By any measure, what it reveals is a country undergoing seismic change. Over the course of a decade up to four million more people have entered the country to live. In the capital, London, people identifying themselves as "white British" have for the first time become a minority. Perhaps most strikingly, the national Muslim population has doubled.
This last fact is perhaps one of the least considered of the census so far. Doubled? Surely not. This has to be the claim of Mark Steyn or some other demographics-obsessed nut. Well no, it isn't, and it is now official: between 2001 and 2011 the Muslim population of the UK rose from 1.5 million to 2.7 million. Otherwise put, that is an increase from 3 percent to 4.8 percent of the overall population.

Today one of the bloggers who was most furiously and frenziedly denouncing us last year for daring to suggest that Perry was opening Texas schools to a biased and whitewashed presentation of Islam posted this WND story without the slightest reference to the Perry controversy, about which he was so spectacularly wrong. That's chutzpah.

This Stalinist creation wears a red cap and long white beard of Santa Claus, but he delivers gifts to children on New Year’s Eve. Christmas trees were also banned, but people continued to trim their New Year’s trees. Communism folded all Christmas celebrations into a New Year celebration.

Christians in the former Soviet Union exhibited bravery and courage in confronting Communism’s anti-Christmas campaign. One person recalled how the young people would go out in the streets and sing Christmas carols, knowing that if police heard them, they would be arrested. In Communist Romania, Rev. Geza Palffy, a Roman Catholic priest, delivered a sermon in 1983, protesting against the fact that December 25th had been declared a work day instead of a holiday. The next day he was arrested by secret police, beaten, imprisoned and died. Inside and outside the Iron Curtain, Ukrainians never stopped singing: “We beg you our Lord, we pray to you today. Grant us freedom, return glory to our Mother Ukraine.” Mr. Reagan ended his broadcast: “I guess we all hope their prayer is answered.” Indeed it was.

Muslim Brotherhood Puts Jordan in the Crosshairs

 

In March, the Dubai police chief warned that the Muslim Brotherhood had a plan for the Gulf monarchies. Instead of regime change, it would make them “figurehead bodies without actual ruling.” That’s exactly what the Muslim Brotherhood is trying to make happen in Jordan by demanding “democratic” reforms. And King Abdullah II appears to be wobbling under the stress.

King Abdullah II, the second most influential non-Islamist in the Muslim world, is hinting that he may bow to the Muslim Brotherhood’s demand that he delay the parliamentary elections scheduled for January 23. He is even considering appointing Brotherhood members to the upper house of parliament and amending the electoral law to their liking.

The Muslim Brotherhood says it will boycott the elections because the parliament doesn’t have enough power and the contests are unfair. They are biased towards tribes and against the majority Palestinian population. King Abdullah II appoints the entire upper house and has the power to hire and fire prime ministers at will. The new electoral law also permits the security services to vote, bumping him up about 10% in any contest.

RT: It seems that the public is divided between those, who think that the government surveillance program violates their civil liberties, and those who say, 'I’ve nothing to hide. So, why should I care?' What do you say to those who think that it shouldnt concern them.
WB: The problem is if they think they are not doing anything that’s wrong, they don’t get to define that. The central government does, the central government defines what is right and wrong and whether or not they target you. So, it’s not up to the individuals. Even if they think they aren't doing something wrong, if their position on something is against what the administration has, then they could easily become a target.

RT: You have received the Callaway award for civic courage. Congratulations! On the website and in the press release it says: “It is awarded to those, who stand out for constitutional rights and American values at great risk to their personal or professional lives.” Under the code of spy ethics – I don’t know if there is such a thing – your former colleagues, they probably look upon you as a traitor. How do you look back at them?

WB: That’s pretty easy. They are violating the foundation of this entire country. Why this entire government was formed? It’s founded with the Constitution and the rights were given to the people in the country under that Constitution. They are in violation of that. Also President Bush signed it earlier as an executive order, a very similar one. If any of this comes into Supreme Court and they rule it unconstitutional, then the entire house of cards of the government falls.

RT: What are the chances of that? What are the odds?

WB: The government is doing the best they can to try to keep it out of court. And, of course, we are trying to do the best we can to get into court. So, we decided it deserves a ruling from the Supreme Court. Ultimately the court is supposed to protect the Constitution. All these people in the government take an oath to defend the Constitution. And they are not living up to the oath of office.

While a guest on a local Chicago radio show, Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) VP Jesse Sharkey was questioned over his recent participation in the Midwest Marxism Conference and refused to answer why he was there and what relationship the Chicago Teachers Union has with the conference and sponsoring organization, the International Socialists Organization. Speaker John A. Boehner initiated today a small purge of rebellious Republicans — mostly conservatives — from prominent committees; it’s the latest instance of the Ohio Republican’s clamping down on his fractious conference.
The decisions were made by the GOP Steering Committee at a Monday meeting, which reviewed a spreadsheet listing each GOP lawmaker and how often he or she had voted with leadership, three sources said.
Reps. David Schweikert of Arizona and Walter Jones of North Carolina were booted from the Financial Services Committee. Reps. Justin Amash of Michigan and Tim Huelskamp of Kansas were removed from the Budget Committee.
According to a source, Schweikert was told that he was ousted in part because his “votes were not in lockstep with leadership.”
Michael Steel, a spokesman for Boehner, said, “The Steering Committee makes decisions based on a range of factors.”

The houses the Obamas rent are fronted by the ocean and backed by a canal so taxpayers have to cover the costs of housing the Secret Service, Coast Guard and Navy Seals in beachfront and canal homes for an estimated total cost of $176,400.

Local taxpayers pick up the tab for local police overtime and the use of the city ambulance that accompanies the president 24 hours a day, for a total of $250,000.

 Speaking with Secure Freedom Radio host Frank Gaffney this week, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) alleged that the Obama administration has actively aided al Qaeda and follows the advice of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Gohmert told Gaffney that anti-Muslim investigations are necessary because President Barack Obama made “horrendous decisions” in backing the “revolutions in Northern Africa and across the Middle East and to the Far East.” He chalked such decisions up to the administration listening closely to the advice of Muslim Brotherhood members. Transcript below (emphasis added in bold):

GAFFNEY: Congressman Gohmert, let me just ask you quickly because you were one of five members of the House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich called you all the National Security Five, who back in June of this year wrote letters to Inspectors General of five different departments raising the question that some of these dismal policies that have resulted in the Obama administration embracing Islamists at home as well as abroad and finding itself I would argue squarely on the wrong side of history as far as freedom is concerned, may be a function of these Muslim Brotherhood associated individuals who are serving in or advising the Obama administration. Looking at what’s happening now, looking at what has developed since you wrote those letters, do you feel that that issue should be raised anew and much more aggressively as Congress looks into the fiasco in Benghazi and now more recently in Egypt?
GOHMERT: Absolutely. I think it almost makes a prima facie case when you look at the decisions made by this administration over the last couple of years, or actually all four years. You look at the decisions it made especially in the last two years in going through the revolutions in Northern Africa and across the Middle East and to the Far East, and the only way you can explain the horrendous decisions that were so completely wrongheaded would be if this administration had a bunch of Muslim Brotherhood members giving them advice.

Since 2009, America’s grassroots activists dedicated millions of hours to taking the country back from a central government leading us down the debt-laden path to European-style socialism.
In the months and years leading up to November’s elections, engaged conservative activists warned that President Obama’s reelection and continued Senate control by the left would signal the end of our Constitutional Republic and confirm establishment of a permanent winning Democrat electorate.  127,683,108 voters decided the outcome on November 6, but apathy may be the big winner in 2012 with 2.76% fewer voters making the effort when compared to 2012 – disheartening to activists who put aside family and friends to knock doors, place signs and make calls.  Anecdotal evidence suggests a cowardly Congress and pandering President have played the key role in driving citizens away from the polls.  Efforts by grassroots activists, endless candidate appearances by both political parties, supplemented by hundreds of millions in PAC ads only increased turnout by a meager .08% in those hotly contested swing states this year. A sad commentary.  The time and money spent only shifted voter choices, but didn’t spur more people to shoulder their civic duty.
So the question must be addressed - If conservative success is judged by Election Day 2012, has the message of fiscal responsibility, limited government and expanding freedom been rejected by Americans?  The answer to that question will either lead to our demise or point the way to our restoration as a free people.  Those activists who did the heavy lifting may not grab the reins for future campaigns unless they believe the country may still reject the soft tyranny of the current majority.

(Reuters) - A Hungarian far-right politician urged the government to draw up lists of Jews who pose a "national security risk", stirring outrage among Jewish leaders who saw echoes of fascist policies that led to the Holocaust.

Marton Gyongyosi, a leader of Hungary's third-strongest political party Jobbik, said the list was necessary because of heightened tensions following the brief conflict in Gaza and should include members of parliament.

Opponents have condemned frequent anti-Semitic slurs and tough rhetoric against the Roma minority by Gyongyosi's party as populist point scoring ahead of elections in 2014.

Jobbik has never called publicly for lists of Jews.
"I am a Holocaust survivor," said Gusztav Zoltai, executive director of the Hungarian Jewish Congregations' Association. "For people like me this generates raw fear, even though it is clear that this only serves political ends. This is the shame of Europe, the shame of the world."
