Scientists at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) have engineered a bacterium whose genetic material includes an added pair of DNA “letters,” or bases, not found in nature. The cells of this unique bacterium can replicate the unnatural DNA bases more or less normally, for as long as the molecular building blocks are supplied.


“Life on Earth in all its diversity is encoded by only two pairs of DNA bases, A-T and C-G, and what we’ve made is an organism that stably contains those two plus a third, unnatural pair of bases,” said TSRI Associate Professor Floyd E. Romesberg, who led the research team. “This shows that other solutions to storing information are possible and, of course, takes us closer to an expanded-DNA biology that will have many exciting applications—from new medicines to new kinds of nanotechnology.”

May snowstorm closed hundreds of miles of a highway and snarled traffic in Wyoming and Colorado on Monday, while the Plains cleaned up from tornado damage and expected further frustrations from imminent thunderstorms.

Nearly 400 miles of Interstate-80 in Wyoming were closed after the spring storm dumped up to 3 feet of snow in parts of the state.

The slick roads and poor visibility were also to blame for at least one fatal accident on U.S. Highway 285 southwest of Denver, according to The Associate Press. The slippery roadway became an accident-trap. Two law enforcement cruisers were hit within the same hour after responding to other accidents, the AP reported.

More Jewish sites vandalized in Ukraine | Jewish Telegraphic Agency

A Holocaust memorial and the grave of the brother of the late Lubavitcher rebbe were vandalized in Ukraine, amid a string of anti-Semitic attacks in the country.
The Holocaust Memorial in Sevastopol in the Crimean Peninsula was spray painted in red with a hammer and sickle and the letters USSR, and with what appeared to be other pro-Russian graffiti according to the Sevastopolskaya Gazeta.
The Sevastopol Jewish Welfare Center, Hesed Shahar, reported the vandalism to local police, according to Sevastopolskaya Gazeta.
The memorial was erected in Sevastopol in 2003 at the site where 4,200 Jews were murdered by the Nazis on July 12, 1942.
The monument has been vandalized by neo-Nazis in the past.
Also on Tuesday it was reported that, in Dnepropetrovsk, swastikas were sprayed on the tomb of Dov Ber Schneerson, brother of the late Lubavicher Rebbe, Rabbi Menahem Mendel Schneerson.
Chabad emissary Rabbi Moshe Weber, who works in Dnepropetrovsk, said that the graffiti looked recent, according to Chabad Online.
Since the revolution erupted in November, Ukraine, which has relatively low levels of anti-Semitic violence, has seen several serious attacks including a stabbing and the attempted torching of two synagogues, most recently last week in Nikolayev.
The Ukrainian government and Russian government officials, as well as their supporters in Ukraine, have exchanged allegations of anti-Semitism.

However, recently in the Middle East and beyond, there has been an increase of inter- and intra-religious strife, escalating into a sharply
violent phase. For example, conflicts are escalating between Christians
(including Orthodox) and Muslims in the Middle East and on a wider scope,
Shiites and Sunnis (behind which stand governments often pursuing not religious
but geopolitical interests) and followers of different Sunni groups,
which pose a direct threat not only to regions close to
Russian borders, but also to Russia's internal peace.

Of course, clashes between different denominations and sects have
always existed, but they have never been so acute. Russia believes that the
United States has opened a Pandora's box, turning the Middle East into a
site of feckless, violent “regime change” engineering. As Daniel Byman has
rightly noted in global politics publication Survival, “The
massive sectarian wave began to rise after the US-led invasion and occupation
of Iraq in 2003, and grew in size and ferocity as Syria descended into strife.”

 A jihadi group occupying the Syrian town of Raqqa recently gave Christian minorities living there three choices: 1) convert to Islam; 2) remain Christian but pay tribute and accept third-class subject status; or 3) die by the sword.

According to the BBC, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria issued a directive:

[The directive cites] the Islamic concept of “dhimma,” [which] requires Christians in the city to pay tax of around half an ounce (14g) of pure gold in exchange for their safety. It says Christians must not make renovations to churches, display crosses or other religious symbols outside churches, ring church bells or pray in public.  Christians must not carry arms, and must follow other rules imposed by ISIS (also known as ISIL) on their daily lives. The statement said the group had met Christian representatives and offered them three choices — they could convert to Islam, accept ISIS’ conditions, or reject their control and risk being killed.  “If they reject, they are subject to being legitimate targets, and nothing will remain between them and ISIS other than the sword,” the statement said.

Scientists and citizens are baffled as the waters of the Azov Sea turned bloody red close to Berdyansk village in mid-July, according to article published online by EnglishRussia. Villagers immediately suspected the great pollution from nearby factories. And older locals warned that it might be a sign of the coming events. Scientist however point that the most probable reason for bloody red color of the sea is algal blooms that are not dangerous to humans.

The researchers explained that the bright red color of the sea is result of high temperatures, which led to the blossoming of brown algae. The south-west wind "drove" algal blooms closer to shore. Further flowering could lead to fish deaths of mass proportions.

As mainstream society inches increasingly further away from the natural order of things, some scientists are busy hatching new methods of human reproduction that employ the same gene-altering techniques used by biotechnology companies like Monsanto. And according to new reports, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is fully on board with this brave new agenda, having recently met to discuss the future of what the mainstream media is now referring to as genetically modified (GM) human beings.

A chilling report by The New York Times (NYT) explains that a special FDA advisory committee recently met to discuss the approval of "radical biological procedures" that involve splicing and dicing the genetic blueprint of the human form. Referred to by the FDA as "mitochondrial manipulation technologies," this disturbing concept, which is already being pushed as a viable fertility option, involves reprogramming the natural process of fetal development to supposedly create healthier babies with lower disease risk.

The Pope has stirred things up in recent weeks by sending a video message to Pentecostal Word of Faith leader Kenneth Copeland, urging reconciliation between Catholics and Charismatics. Anglican Episcopal Bishop and friend of the Pontiff, Tony Palmer, stated in an introduction to the video before Copeland’s live audience, “The Catholic and Charismatic Renewal is the hope of the Church,” as ministry followers cheered him on.

He continued by telling the group that his words had come straight from the Vatican. “When my wife saw that she could be Catholic, and Charismatic, and Evangelical, and Pentecostal, and it was absolutely accepted in the Catholic Church, she said that she would like to reconnect her roots with the Catholic culture. So she did.”

“Brothers and sisters, Luther’s protest is over. Is yours?” came the bold proclamation from Palmer, followed by an enthusiastic reaction from Kenneth Copeland himself, who said, “Heaven is thrilled over this…You know what is so thrilling to me? When we went into the ministry 47 years ago, this was impossible.”

The Obama Peace Plan Includes Permanently Dividing The City Of Jerusalem

Barack Obama’s “two state” peace plan would not just permanently divide the land of Israel.  It would also permanently divide the city of Jerusalem.  It is anticipated that the “Kerry Plan”, which is expected to be revealed to the public soon, will call for a Palestinian capital in east Jerusalem without specifying the exact borders.  According to some media reports, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has approached Palestinian leadership with the idea of locating the Palestinian capital in the neighborhood of Beit Hanina.  Of course the details of any peace agreement will change as negotiations progress, but one thing is becoming increasingly clear – the Palestinians will never accept an undivided Jerusalem and the U.S. government is going to pressure Israel to hand part of the holy city over to them.  But if Israel gives in and accepts a “peace plan” that includes the permanent division of Jerusalem, it will end up being absolutely disastrous for Israel, for the Palestinians and for the United States.

Net immigration to the United Kingdom surged to 212,000 in the year ending September 2013, a significant increase from 154,000 in the previous year, according to the latest official statistics.

The new immigration data cast considerable doubt on a pledge by Prime Minister David Cameron to get net migration—the difference between the number of people entering Britain and those leaving—down to the "tens of thousands" before the general election in May 2015.

According to the latest Migration Statistics Quarterly Report (MSQR), published by the Office for National Statistics on February 27, some 532,000 people migrated to the UK in the year ending in September, up from the 497,000 people who arrived during the previous year, while 320,000 left the country, down from the 343,000 the previous year.

The number of EU citizens arriving in the UK rose to 209,000, up from 149,000 the previous year, while immigration of non-EU citizens was 244,000, down from 269,000 the previous year.

Most of the immigrants to the UK from the EU were from economically troubled countries, including Bulgaria, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Spain. Most of those arriving from non-EU countries were immigrants from Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

The dream was straightforward. World peace would have to come via world government. To that end, a five-point document was presented to men of high political standing – men who shaped foreign policy, who wielded power in the top universities, who commanded industry, who represented the most influential organizations and the most enlightened social circles of the day. Men who personally knew presidents and prime ministers; indeed, for some the White House was their house.

The year was 1912. Calls for “world government” precede that date, but the fact that we find much discussion today regarding “global governance” and the need for an “international political authority” – one hundred years removed from 1912 – demonstrates the continuum of a “big idea.”

Israel legally separates Christians from Muslim Arabs »

Israel’s Knesset on Monday signed into law a bill that legally distinguishes between local Christians and the bulk of the Arabic-speaking population, which is primarily Muslim.  The stated goal of the law is to boost Christian employment rights by recognizing them as an independent minority, and thereby granting them separate representation on local councils and employment committees. Israeli Arab (mostly Muslim) members of Knesset blasted the new law, insisting it would undermine Arab identity in the Holy Land. But beyond the increased employment rights, that is precisely the point for many Arabic-speaking Christians in Israel.

What does it mean that a Christian is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)?

Answer: The new creation is described in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” The word “therefore” refers us back to verses 14-16 where Paul tells us that all believers have died with Christ and no longer live for themselves. Our lives are no longer worldly; they are now spiritual. Our “death” is that of the old sin nature which was nailed to the cross with Christ. It was buried with Him, and just as He was raised up by the Father, so are we raised up to “walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4). That new person that was raised up is what Paul refers to in 2 Corinthians 5:17 as the “new creation.”



To understand the new creation, first we must grasp that it is in fact a creation, something created by God. John 1:13 tells us that this new birth was brought about by the will of God. We did not inherit the new nature, nor did we decide to re-create ourselves anew, nor did God simply clean up our old nature; He created something entirely fresh and unique. The new creation is completely new, brought about from nothing, just as the whole universe was created by God ex nihilo, from nothing. Only the Creator could accomplish such a feat.



Second, “old things have passed away.” The “old” refers to everything that is part of our old nature—natural pride, love of sin, reliance on works, and our former opinions, habits and passions. Most significantly, what we loved has passed away, especially the supreme love of self and with it self-righteousness, self-promotion, and self-justification. The new creature looks outwardly toward Christ instead of inwardly toward self. The old things died, nailed to the cross with our sin nature.

The officials claimed that the Obama administration’s current proposal, which is intended to serve as the basis for continued talks on a two-state solution, includes pretty much everything Israel demanded — almost down to the last detail — but does not address vital requirements from the Palestinian side. (Israeli officials have voiced numerous objections of their own to the reported terms, with Israel’s Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon quoted as describing the security aspect of the document, for instance, as “not worth the paper it’s printed on.”)

Facing the consequencs of dividing Israel

We know that Matthew 24 predicts natural calamities that are to take place as a sign of Jesus' return.  I have included some news today about the natural calamities we have been having here in the U.S. This has been going on without a break since the 1st of January.  Here where I live, we have about 6 inches of snow on the ground and it is snowing more this morning.  We are expecting another 3 to 5 inches today.  We are 37 days until spring!!!!

I want to bring to your attention a book written by William Koenig in 2004 and revised in 2008.  Notice the sub title:  "Facing The Consequences of Dividing Israel".  Bill goes back to 1991 and shows statistically, that our nations various negotiations to get Israel to give away or divide their land, has resulted in a natural calamity of some short here in the U.S.  Very interesting.

You might enjoy looking into this a little further.  Also right now, Britain is suffering from flooding.  They too are involved in the Middle East land-for-peace process.

US Secretary of State John Kerry met with King Abdullah II of Jordan in order to discuss  peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, and the crisis in Syria,  reported Jordan's official news agency Petra on Tuesday. According to the report, the king asserted Jordan's continued support for the peace efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state on the basis of the 1967  lines with east Jerusalem as its capital.

The Shema‘ Yisrael from Deuteronomy 6:4 (“Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one”) is Judaism’s holiest confession. Today, we understand the passage as a monotheistic declaration. However, in the Second Temple period, the Shema‘ Yisrael text in Deuteronomy would have been read “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lordalone.” The Shema‘ Yisrael was originally a monolatric statement; it stated that Israel had an exclusive relationship with its God, but it did not deny the existence of other national deities for other peoples.

A few years ago, David Horowitz and I challenged the major Muslim organizations in the U.S. to repudiate this genocidal hadith. None would, and the few who commented at all offered nothing more than the usual propaganda about “taking it out of context,” implying that only greasy Islamophobes understood such passages as having an applicability to the present situation. Apparently Jordanian MP Zakaria al-Sheikh didn’t get the memo.

Meanwhile, MP Mousa Abu Sweilam says: “I would like to tell everybody that the Palestinian cause is an Islamic issue of the first degree.” This is the foremost point that John Kerry, Barack Obama and the entire Washington establishment refuses to grasp. Yet as long as people like Mousa Abu Sweilam and others believe that the existence of Israel is an insult to Islam that must be eradicated, no negotiated settlement will ever work. If Obama and Kerry force Israel to accept yet another one, it will fail almost immediately, with the concessions Israel is pushed into making becoming the basis for new jihad attacks.

The dangers of Muslim-Christian “interfaith dialogue”

“Has the Church in the U.S. Succumbed to the Charms of Islam?,” by William Kilpatrick in New Oxford Review, January 2014:

…New York’s Timothy Cardinal Dolan paid a visit last summer to the Albanian Islamic Cultural Center in Tompkinsville on Staten Island, where he met with a large group of Muslim leaders. As is often the case when Catholic prelates meet with Muslims, his theme was the common ground shared by the two faiths. Cardinal Dolan told his Islamic audience, “You love God, we love God, and he is the same God,” and he thanked them “for making me feel like a friend and a member of a family.” He went on to tell them how much they share in common with Catholics: “Your love of marriage and family, your love of children and babies, your love of freedom — religious freedom particularly — your defense of life, your desire for harmony and unity and your care for others, your care for God’s creation and your care for those who are in need.”

Perhaps this is true of the Muslims of Tompkinsville, but unfortunately the cardinal’s words will be taken as an endorsement of Islam in general. I say “unfortunately” because what he says about the common values and beliefs of Muslims and Catholics is highly misleading.

Two Fundamentally Distinct Faiths

Take the assertion that Muslims and Catholics love the same God. Of course, Cardinal Dolan’s statement can be justified in the broad sense: There is, after all, only one God. Whether prayer and worship are being offered to our Father in Heaven or to Allah or to the Great Spirit, there is only one God who is paying attention. But in that sense, anyone who offers up prayers is praying to the same God to whom Catholics pray.

Once we move from the general to the particular, the “same God” thesis begins to fall apart. In the New Testament, God presents Himself as a Trinity (Mt. 28:19); in the Koran, God explicitly denies being a Trinity (5:73). In the Gospels, God refers to Jesus as “my beloved Son” (Mt. 3:17); in the Koran, God curses Christians for calling Christ the Son of God (9:30). In the Christian account, God accepts His only Son’s sacrificial death on the cross; in the Muslim account, God declares reports of Christ’s crucifixion to be “a monstrous falsehood” (4:157). In light of these significant differences, it is difficult to see how the God of the Bible and the God of the Koran could be one and the same.

Jordan is in the eye of a storm as armed Salafist and jihadist brigades, as well as al-Qaeda militants, are pouring into the country from all sides. The dangers of the “Arab Afghans” that existed a quarter of a century ago — when Iraq was turned into a terrorism-export “factory” after it came under occupation — remain etched in the memory of the people and officials.

The Tel Dan Inscription: The First Historical Evidence of King David from the Bible – Biblical Archaeology Society

Few modern Biblical archaeology discoveries have caused as much excitement as the Tel Dan inscription—writing on a ninth-century B.C. stone slab (or stela) that furnished the first historical evidence of King David from the Bible.

The Tel Dan inscription, or “House of David” inscription, was discovered in 1993 at the site of Tel Dan in northern Israel in an excavation directed by Israeli archaeologist Avraham Biran.

The broken and fragmentary inscription commemorates the victory of an Aramean king over his two southern neighbors: the “king of Israel” and the “king of the House of David.” In the carefully incised text written in neat Aramaic characters, the Aramean king boasts that he, under the divine guidance of the god Hadad, vanquished several thousand Israelite and Judahite horsemen and charioteers before personally dispatching both of his royal opponents. Unfortunately, the recovered fragments of the “House of David” inscription do not preserve the names of the specific kings involved in this brutal encounter, but most scholars believe the stela recounts a campaign of Hazael of Damascus in which he defeated both Jehoram of Israel and Ahaziah of Judah.
